In response to:

Tragedy and Exploitation – The Progressive Way

Here's a thought: Instead of immediately going to gun control as the solution to these tragedies, why don't we rethink the laws concerning mental illness. Think how many of these mass shootings as well as individual murders are committed by people who clearly have mental issues. Examples: The guy who shot up the movie theatre -- when his mom heard the news, she was shocked but not surprised. She knew he had problems. The guy who shot Gaby Gifford and murdered so many others -- another known mental case. The guy who recently put an arrow through the head of his father before killing himself -- another one. Yet the laws protect these people. You dare not even breathe the words "mentally ill" or "In need of confinement and treatment."

They never used to. "Deinstitutionalization" was a liberal watchword in the 1970s. They demanded -- demanded! -- that society tear down those shameful, archaic mental hospitals and insane asylums and give the inmates rights and the opportunity to live on their own, and make their own decisions. The result was the sudden appearance of homeless people, plus a rise in crime committed by the mentally ill.

It is time that we rebuild and reconstitute those asylums built for those who could not cope for themselves -- and jail the people who called for their decommissioning.

Clearly that thinking doesn't fit the liberal agenda...

It does fit facts.

I’ll leave it to others better suited to comment on the horror of Friday afternoon in Newtown, Conn. I am not yet a parent and would not presume to understand the emotions involved in something like this.

But on the media reaction and exploitation that followed the horrific news, I will comment.

Simply put, it was disgusting.

I’ve said before how progressives will exploit anyone and anything to advance their agenda, but I’d always thought there was a line, somewhere, of decency they wouldn’t cross. I was wrong.

With the blood of the victims still wet, progressives began...
