I think congress, when they're in DC, should be forced to live in barracks like soldiers do. Bunk beds. Reville at dawn. MREs. VA Medical care. No air conditioning. And have one secretary. And cubicles instead of offices. Then I'd rent all that prime real estate out to private companies to pay down the public debt. Once in a while I might like to scream, "DROP AND GIVE ME TWENTY, MAGGOT."

Agreed! But also add these provisions. NO PAY!!!! Since they are all so-called "Public Servents" they should receive no pay, and no security provisions. Further more....for ALL ELECTED OFFICES from the lowest to the highest. A maximum of two terms to ANY elected office. Once a person has served two terms in any elected office, they cannot run for that office again. We MUST GET RID OF CAREER POLITICS. I also think it might be time to get of the office of the President of the United States. Maybe have the individual state governors act as their own ambassadors.

They're not LOSING their pay, it's just shunted over into an escrow account until there is a budget passed...and it doesn't need to be (read "won't be") a good one. I agree that we need to permanently separate the words "career" and "politician", and do it soon!

The vote was 285 to 144, largely on the back of Republican support.

Most House Democrats spoke out against the bill. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called the salary provision a "joke" and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer called the bill a "political gimmick" that perpetuates uncertainty.

The Senate is expected to...
