While some of the founders did consider the 2nd amendment a protection against a tyrannical government that is no longer a realistic possibility. The fate of the Branch Davidians at Waco demonstrated that quite well. The role of the gun in today's society is as a deterrent. When that deterrent is not present it's an open invitation to lunatic mass-killers as we've seen demonstrated repeatedly. So why do we continue to cling to the horribly mistaken idea that the gun-free zone protects children? Are liberals so willing to deliberately sacrifice children on the altar of Progressivism to advance their agenda of government control?

the Branch Davidians just wanted to be left alone. they didn't try to revolt.
Their mistake was to get trapped in their compound where FEDGOV could bring overwhelming force against them. Perhaps they should have taken some F-Troopers as hostages.

OTOH,in a real revolt, people are not going to wait for FEDGOV to come to them, nor go up against the soldiers head to head, they will be going after politicians, judges, gov't officials any time they come out in public. it will be OPEN SEASON on those people.

Actually 'gun free' (ha) zones are an attractor for nuts who want to create a bloodbath without anyone being able to confront them. Eliminate these killing zones and allow a few people there to arm themselves, and the attraction will go away. The government due to its intractableness actually CAUSES these tragedies and them uses them to diminish freedoms to law abiding citizen. Totally disgusting, deplorable. and brainless.

Did I miss the number of Branch Davidians being well over 100 MILLION or are you attempting to laughably suggest loyal patriots in the country number a couple dozen??

I'm allergic to nuts. That's why I choose to exercise my Second Amendment rights. I want to get the nuts before they get me or any of my loved ones.
When Barack Obama implored Americans to "do the right thing" on gun restriction during a news conference this week, the "right thing" should have been obvious to everyone. Absolute moral authority -- it's the only way to go.

If you fail to see the picture as clearly as the president, you may be an extremist or, more than likely, you're too feeble-minded to withstand the Jedi mind tricks employed by gun merchants or radio talk show hosts or the National Rifle Association or all those folks "ginning up fear" on the issue, according to a president who trots out 7-year-olds to shield...
