So Fake It’s Real: Global Warming is Reality TV for the Media Elite

When reading an article, go beyond the headline. This is especially true for something by Ransom. If you actually read the links (the first one doesn’t work for me but the others do) you find that the research he is referring to is pretty straightforward: As the climate continues to warm it drives extreme temperature swings. These lead to volatility in the corn market and this is made worse by the ethanol mandate...

Sratistically, there has been no "warming" since 1998, and right now, Alaska, China, and India are experiencing extreme winters (while last year, Europe had a devastatingly cold winter) even as the E. Coast of the US is relatively mild, and from which most news emanates.

Are current corn prices high because of global warming?

Ransom doesn’t think so

“…you’d think the current trend of high corn prices are the result of global warming, not the real culprit: mismanagement of monetary policy by Obama and the central banks which has had an inflationary affect (sic) on many commodities including corn, oil, gold and silver.

He ignores the fact that the 2012 corn crop was the lowest since 1995-96 and that probably had much more to do with the price fluctuation.

So, are current corn prices caused by global warming?

There have been droughts, and hot spells before. Climate change will increase the number of these extreme events. So whether the current drought “caused by” climate change is the wrong question. The likelihood is that these events will occur more often.

Of course Ransom objects to the language of science that has “a lot of ifs, and, buts that add up to a great deal of uncertainty…”. Yes, John, real scientists speak of probabilities not certainties—those are left to columnists like you.

There is ALWAYS climate change. 10,000 years ago glaciers a mile thick were an hour away from me. 1,000,000 years ago, I would be a mile under water. And 100,000,000 years ago, I could walk to Kenya and India.

Right now there is more snow coverage in the US than ever recorded since 1888. But America is not having a particularly "cold" winter because the NE is "above average."

And as to storms, in the 1st half of the 20th C., the E. Coast had two or three hurricanes a summer, many horrendous: Carol, Donna, Edna, Diane, DIanna. Look them up.

Just what is climate change to you? Is it cooling? Is it warming? Which is it? And one of the reason corn prices increased was the move to ethanol, which has to be trucked because of the water content it has.

Here’s my challenge to all the global warming apologists:

Explain to me why the “settled science” of global warming has to manipulate headlines to make information appear scarier and more threatening than the actual data shows.

If global warming is so settled, why do you and your friends take the opportunity to exaggerate, obfuscate and slant every piece of news that comes out to make it seem relevant to today?

You can see an example of this in the headlines below:

Climate Change Main Contributor to Corn Volatility, Study Says” writes Bloomberg-BusinessWeek.
