Agree! Seniors need to know the role of the Independent Payment Advisory Board. I think regulations and policies will be put in place to do exactly what you say....determine whether seniors should receive certain medical care. Remember, Obama told a citizen maybe her mother would just have to take a pill rather than have surgery!!! That is in addition to undermining Medicare so that providers will not take Medicare patients.
How do you cut rate of growth in Medicare SPENDING without cutting payments to providers; thus, affecting services to seniors? A guaranteed benefit means NOTHING if there are not enough hospitals, physicians, etc. to provide the benefit. As a senior, I know Medicare must be REFORMED for the country's fiscal health--it cannot continue as is. I trust Romney and Ryan to do that.
Aren't overcharges and reimbursements two different things? If reimbursements to Medicare providers are cut (reimbursements are already low), many providers will not accept Medicare patients. I think this is already happening. Cuts to reimbursements for services to seniors will surely affect access to these services.
My understanding is that Medicare covers nursing home stay for a very limited time--something like 30 days or so for rehabilatative purposes. Many seniors go in nursing homes on Medicaid once time limit expires under Medicare. To qualify to go in a nursing home under Medicaid, the senior basically must have no assets. So, the question is what does Obamacare do to nursing home benefits under Medicaid?
