They are scared that they will be labeled as "extreme" if they don't. Instead, they should be out describing why background checks are no panacea in keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous felons. Why the heck are those felons even out on the street if we can't trust them to buy a gun from a dealer. If they can't get it from a dealer, they'll get it somewhere else, like stealing, buying from a homey, having a girlfriend buy for them, black market. They should be in prison if we don't trust them to behave. Plus, they could get knives, tire irons, or other weapons to kill with.

A November 2012 Mass Shootings Analysis report issued by the New Jersey Intelligence & Analysis Unit (NJ ROIC) in partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security shows semiautomatic handguns are the most common weapons used to carry out mass shootings.
