Dianne Feinstein wants people to register ALL semiautomatics which have a pistol grip and can accept a detachable magazine. That means handguns as well as AR's, AK's, and a host of other guns. She's also willing to label some guns which don't fit that description as "assault weapons", such as the Ruger Mini-14. Once guns are registered, the specter of confiscation is one step closer. They will know where those guns are at. Universal background checks will require a national gun registry, or you might as well not implement it. People will just say, "screw it" if they want to sell a gun to a friend, relative, sibling, etc. Why waste the time, effort, money and resources to have someone's background checked when you know they would pass?

Former President Bill Clinton, who suffered significant political damage after signing into law the original assault weapons ban, is cautioning President Obama against patronizing his gun control opponents, in particular gun owners.

Appearing before Obama's National Finance Committee and various business leaders, Clinton stressed that guns present different cultural complexities than other political issues.

"Do not patronize the passionate supporters of your opponents by looking down your nose at them," he said, according to Politico.

Clinton's words are wise, but it may be too late. The Obama campaign team has already
