Without the warpaint, Pelosi would show her age. She's over 70, as is Reid. But you are right, it is not age but tenure. We also need common folks in Washington, not career lawyers or political science majors. We have a few doctors, but should limit terms, but need farmers, business men, etc. Also need shorter terms. Let them go to Washington for 3 months, get business done in simple terms, not 2700 page monsters, and go home to their farm or business. If employed, most business would grant 3 month leave of absence for such patriotism.

Richard Lugar, R-Ind., lost the GOP primary to challenger Richard Mourdock this month, Beltway types saw the voters' verdict as a victory for the tea party and a defeat for the kind of Republican who could work across the aisle. I think Lugar, 80, lost because he is out of touch with Indiana. He started the primary registered to vote at an Indiana home he had sold in 1977. The Lugars have resided in Virginia ever since. Lugar had been working in Washington for so long that he didn't realize he needed to keep up at least the appearance...
