Fighting Crime with a Vodka Bottle in Place of a Gun

Yes it does happen, but the number of burglaries and thefts that I put up with in Phoenix were not accidents. I had a tool shed broken into 3 times, and numerous items stolen off my back deck in broad daylight. The last time I called the cops, the dispatcher asked if I knew who did it. I told him that if I knew who did it, they'd be getting a call about a body being found in the desert. The thieves stole all of the tools I used for my woodworking business TWICE, taking over $2000 worth of tools on the last break in. Yes, my insurance covered it, but it set me back weeks while getting the replacement tools.

It happens probably nightly. A citizen fights off a criminal in order to protect his property. But it doesn't always make the nightly news. In this case it did.

How much easier and safer would have been this takedown of a punk in New York City if the clerk had been equipped with a hand gun rather than just a vodka bottle?  How much less of a burden to the taxpayer too, who will now have to incarcerate the criminal?

And just think of chilling effect it would have on criminals if shootings of miscreants during crimes like this were on the nightly...
