Barone is crazy. It is because the US has a strong military that other nations see us as a threat and want to fight us. If we do as Obama wishes and make ourselves less capable of engaging in a war, the other nations will no longer feel threatened, and as such they will befriend us.
Consider a situation whereby you confront two types of people; one weak wimp and one huge, monster of a man. Which makes you feel threatened? The stronger, of course. As such, you will feel compelled to go up to him and start a fight since he is a threat. In contrast, nobody ever harrasses a weak person since they are not perceived as being a threat.

This post got to me, however. I do not think that being the police of the world is a good idea. As my handle suggests, I believe the initiation of force is the only true sin. Our country is the first to say proudly that trade is the highest moral value. When I was a kid, (we used to get in fights back then without fear of expulsion or parental retribution) I used to beat up the kids that picked on the weaklings. The U.S. used to do that with people like the Fuehrer and Mussolini. Now we pick scabs like Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan and pat ourselves on the back.
Basically your theory is a basic failure of logic. Bullies don't pick on strong kids at schoolyards. (By that "logic," wouldn't they go after teachers first?) Germany didn't start by attacking the U.S. in World War II.
I hope you don't own a pet, because by your reasoning, that cat is going to attack a human being rather than mouse. That dog will bite your hand rather than go after that weak bowl of dog food.
