This is sort of a tempest in a teacup in that extravagant travel expenditures are the norm for government travel. In the late 80's my wife travelled extensively worldwide teaching a fill in the blank procurement program in the navy supply system. "Free" plane tickets were abundant and never returned to the government. Lodging was always at the most expensive, elite locations "at the government rate." Admittedly on one such trip, I was allowed to use one of the "free" plane tickets, much to my everlasting shame, and lodging was at a VERY nice hotel in southern California at a bargain basement price of $240 per night, right next to a nicer hotel that was $48 per night. changed in government. Always the most expensive locations, the most frivilous reasons for meetings in Hawaii, San Diego, wherever the distances were the greatest and the expenses the highest. Ultimately the free tickets were extended to enable male companions to accompany my FORMER wife. Gee, I do not miss her.

When in doubt, President Obama is quick to push for more government regulations as a universal cure to all problems. No matter what the problem, be it health care, financial reforms, small business growth, taxation, Team Obama tells Americans that new regulations that will expand governmental control and operations, are vital.

What Obama fails to realize is that more regulations piled atop the already huge regulatory thicket, are not the solution to the problems this nation faces. Moreover, new regulations and the corresponding expansion of government, are likely to create far more problems and continue to hobble economic growth. Daily, Barack...
