This is silly. Did the candidates cancel events and ads for the numerous killings in Chicago and throughout the country? No. And neither should they. Leave local criminal issues to the locals and concentrate on national issues. To the extent any murder, other than one like Nidal Hassan's Fort Hood spree, is a national issue, it's only in that the federal government has worked so hard to eradicate the local non-governmental pillars of our civil society. I expect this of Barack Obama, but Romney's me-too reactions of this sort don't bode well.

The president and his challenger have both put politics on hold for today, even as many in the media do the opposite:
