All Canadians are certainly not leftist. Check out Western Canada which is right wing as you please, and the present Prime Minister started out as a member of a new party, known as the Reform party, which eventually merged with the conservative party. The Reform party was very right wing. Not all parts of the U.S. are the same politically, and the same goes for Canada. Lois

Lois is correct. I lived in Canada for four years in the late 1990's. There is a strong Conservative element, with Christian roots, in Alberta and other parts of Western Canada. The current Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, comes from those roots. The urban areas of Canada, and most of the national media, is nauseatingly 'politically correct' and left wing.... and absolutely clueless, and extremely pious and condescendingly superior in their 'clue-less-ness', like this person who was the subject of Hunter's column.

A quick Google search turned up her Wikipedia entry, which tells me she’s a Canadian and contributing editor at Newsweek and senior editor at Slate. In other words, a committed leftist.

Lithwick writes:

This morning in America’s highest court, freedom seems to be less about the absence of constraint than about the absence of shared responsibility, community, or real concern for those who don’t want anything...
