It must be nice to get $75,000 a year (the current average for Chicago teachers) plus EXCEPTIONAL benefits and almost 3 months a year off, yet strike for a 16% raise. The rest of us haven't had more than a COLA raise.
Oh well, they figure the government can just suck more money out of us.
This will lead to a further downfall of Chicago when even more people move out and abandon the city for the suburbs. Just like in other cities like Baltimore, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Camden, NJ.
On Monday, Chicago’s 26,000 public school teachers walked out of the classroom and, after a quick stop at Target for red T-shirts, assembled in the Windy City’s downtown Loop to make this crucial point: It’s not about the children. It’s about us.
But this can’t be true!
The motives of teachers unions are always pure and can never be questioned. Unlike other “workers,” teachers are professionals who are never out for themselves. Everything they do is for the children.
Thanks to the Chicago teachers strike, this myth may finally be busted. It’s all too clear...

And if my work year and day was increased one year to the next by 20% more time I would want say about a 20% raise. Wouldn't you?
