I always thought morals applied to lifestyle choices such as marry vs living together while the ideals of honesty and truth are the ethics providing the foundation for moral decisions. When ethics are defined as morals the waters can become very muddy indeed IMHO because there is longer a distinction between right and wrong. You cannot legislate morals, but you can enforce ethics when they are clearly defined. No lying, no stealing, no cheating, no exceptions. Everything else becomes choice, allowable as long as it harms no one else.

When it comes to guns and violence, Right talks the talk, Left walks the walk and blames the Right. Sad, sad, sad, Difference is; Right only willing to use a gun to protect life or property, Left is willing to use a gun to make a point, or go after anyone who is different from them or who has offended them or................Because they can.

Same series, episode named "Sahara Info" discusses the emerging evidence that the Sahara goes through 20,000 yr cycles of fertile/desert/fertile. Seems the earths wobble causes the tilt of the axis to shift on a regular basis is the working hypothesis. Cycle has been confirmed going back 3 million years. Basically earth rocks! Naturally the axis shift does affect the whole planet. So much for man made global warming.
Greg1084; You are right on. We smokers have been trying to warn folks for years. Want to see your future, look at where smokers are today. Fact is tobacco is a leaf, the smoke from tobacco has the same chemicals as all other burning leaves, brush, grass or trees. The marker for tobacco smoke is nicotine. Nicotine is not harmful, Google it. After 50 years and billions spent they still cannot prove that tobacco causes anything but the lie repeated has become a truth. Now consider HRT. Harmone Replacement Therapy was recommended and encouraged for women for over 25 years until they did a real research study on it and found that HRT increased the risk for cancers 32%, strokes 27% and heart attacks 23%, Google it.
Wow what a week, Obama care was given it's rightful label, a tax, something I remember him saying he would never pass on anyone making 250,000 a year. Add to that the Bush Tax Cuts he wants to re impose at an average cost of 1500 a year to all families making under 250,000 his true flim flam colors are exposed. Man made global warming will be disproved within the next 5 years as it becomes more widely known that the tilt of the Earths orbit changes slightly every 20,000 years because we rock, literally. Reference History Chanel "How the Earth is Made, Sahara Info" for an over view. Water boarding by Bush gave us Bin Laden after O spent 10 months covering his a$$. Sadness is how closed/narrow the "Progressive liberal" mind really is

I agree with magnetar. When the fundamental underlying principals are life, liberty and protection of the ownership of property given to everyone you have freedom for all individuals. You cannot define or specify everything without creating a conflict for someone else. When free people agree to pass laws they consider to be in the common good of the people, you have a republic. When you have 51% of the people telling 49% of the people how to live, work and what they should believe you have a democracy. When you have government telling all the people how to live, where to live and what to believe, you have socialism, monarchism, dictators, whatever. It ain't free.

Not all elected representative are bad. Term limits tosses out the good and bad. Too many people do not understand the power of the vote and their responsibility to pay minimal attention to who runs their government at all levels. If they earn a vote by doing their job, let them keep their job. Define your values and vote for the person closest. An hour of your time to vote every 2 years is a small price for freedom. Don't vote? Don't bieatch. You got what you paid for.IMHO
I choose to remain an Independent as long as being a Christian and passing judgment on the morality of others are required credentials for joining the Republican Party or running on the Republican ticket. If you choose to kill unwanted babies in the womb, fine, don't expect me to pay for it. When you have children, expect the fathers to contribute to their up bringing and expect the government to enforce those payments monthly without eligibility requirements. If an adult chooses to purchase sex from an adult willing to provide sex, fine, regulate where those transactions can occur and the minimum conditions required (not in public please) Stop with the laws already. Expect ethics and character from elected officials, not religion.
Republicans took the House for the first time in 40 years in 94, remember? Worked with Clinton, got some stuff done which Clinton takes credit for. Dems have had control of the Senate for most, if not all, of the last 80 years along with the House. Republicans can't grow balls until the voting public does. The current Tea Party members in the House and Senate are a classic study of what happens to those who do stand for the core principals of small government, minimum regulation and market based capitalism. It gets labeled as too "extreme" by the left and moderate right. O' Reilly is a good example of what I mean with his dismissive attitude towards the Tea Party.
