In response to:

Romney Was Not the Problem

I absolutely agree with Ann and resent those who claimed that "elites" or the "establishment" nominated Romney. That is insulting to every sincere, non-elite ordinary middle class patriot who voted for Romney because we thought he would be the best PRESIDENT. Not because it would be such fun to watch him debate Obama although we got that anyway. He was well qualified and the right man for this troubled economic time. What Romney faced was the egos or Gingrich and Santorum who cared more about their own deeply flawed candidacies and their own ridiculous claim THEY could do better...based on what exactly? Santorum couldn't even win his own state and Gingrich while brilliant had more baggage than United Airlines.

Lisa,

While many in the primaries voted for Romney, that doesn't undermine the claim that Romney was the candidate of the Republican establishment, and the elites pushed him HARD onto Republican voters who eventually acquiesced because they finally saw that there was simply no viable alternative.

But this is the problem with national politics. The party bosses pick a candidate, and it takes an extreme misstep, or very aggressive grassroots campaigning to overcome the presumptive nominee. It's not a democratic process so much as it's like an NFL review: Romney was going to get the nomination unless there was indisputable evidence that someone else was a better choice.

Do you really want to play the blame game, Lisa? Of course you thought he was the best candidate, just as others thought their particular choice was the best. I don't blame you for your belief; why blame others for theirs? I suspect all the candidates believed they would be best for the country.

Gingrich was the only one to balance the budget and reform welfare in my lifetime. I could have cared less about his infidelity.

Small minds always leap to the answers given the last time around, which is probably why Maxine Waters keeps getting re-elected. But the last time is not necessarily the same as this time. A terrorist attack is not the same as the Cold War, a war in Afghanistan is not the same as a war in Iraq, and Mitt Romney is not the same as John McCain or Bob Dole.

But since the election, many conservatives seem to be coalescing around the explanation for our defeat given by Jenny Beth Martin of the Tea Party Patriots, who said: "What we...
