I read once that in the state of Mississippi, a person who is 1/32nd of that race would be considered legally a "Negro," and that the law was still on the books. Believe me, I considered moving there with some of the palest kids you ever saw near college-age, who can claim Native American and Black ancestry of at least that much. Why not offer an adult-literacy program to people instead of lowering scores, and help with studying for the tests? Once the poor performers are in place, you are stuck with people who can't fill out a police report legibly, and then cases are thrown out, costing much more in the long run.
Brilliant idea! I would buy a ticket to that show. Make it a nationwide tour, and reveal what our national, state, and local "leaders" do with our taxes.

Another Snout at the Public Trough

Another wonderful metaphor to sum up professional politicians and their ilk, though I can't decide which is best, the snout at the public trough or the overdone roux. A truth moment I experienced--My uneducated working-class mother-in-law suffered through a frilly speech honoring James Clyburn for all he had done to house the poor. "Slumlord," she said, neatly slicing to the bone.
Thank you for your reply and rebuke. Does Richard usually make statements like this? He could be getting senile or suffer from dementia.
I would buy a real tree if it came with the lights wrapped around it already. It's the lights, folks. That is what makes the fake trees so marketable. They are also much easier to assemble now. In times past, it was a lot of trouble to figure out which branches went where, and still string the lights, too, so there was no contest. If I had a tree farm, I would concentrate on wreaths, swags, and other uses for greenery and make more on one arrangement than you could make on the whole tree. They need to re-invent themselves, not rely on the government.

I was hoping the relative that connects the dots between the White House and that company would be named in this article. Stimulus is like Santa Claus coming to town for those who reward their friends and family members. This wasn't about jobs or energy, but about rewarding friends of the White House.

Hilarious! She is funnier than Letterman, Leno, and what-his-name put together. I will stay away from the special ed comment except to say that the government pays some parents to "babysit" their own special ed kid, calling it therapy. I was told there is one parent who attends school with her son, gets there, eats breakfast, looks at the newspaper, etc., then she is paid for time at home with him also, helping him with the special computer bought by the government. What is her incentive to help her son get better, if he could? Wouldn't she be out of a job? Yet there isn't enough money to educate all the gifted children in their own counties, therefore the governors schools for them, where they must choose between living at home...
