In John Bad Elk vs United States, the Supreme Court found John not guilty for killing a police officer who was trying to arrest him falsely. As you say, killing other Americans is not something most anyone would like to talk about, for any reason. However, there may come the day where just that is necessary to defend our freedom. We are not immune. History has not changed the nature of human kind to tyrannize one another. It would be an awful thing and something not done for "transient" reasons. In order to follow our forefathers, it would take a long string of abuses.

Even if the 2nd amendment were repealed, the right to bear arms would still exist. There was a great debate by our founders as to whether or not rights should be enumerated at all because that would be taken to limit them to those enumerated. Our countries charter, the Declaration of Independence states that our rights come from our Creator and are inalienable. The right to protect oneself and ones other basic rights from individuals and the government is one of the most basic of all and is certainly inalienable. The peoples guns need to get better and more powerful to keep up with the governments lest the people get overpowered by a corrupt and tyrannical wannabe dictator. It is up to the people to keep our rights given by God.
