The Return of 'Social Utility'

As long as investors are made fully aware of risk, let the games begin. We paid good money to educate them, now all they have to do is receive the information in 12th grade reading level disclosures. How hard could that be? We don't need more laws, we need information that people can read so they can make informed decisions regarding their investment dollars.

Exploiting Public Ignorance

right where it belongs. In my lifetime, each suceeding president has grabbed more authority while the Congress sat by and tried to get re-elected. Presidential singing statements and executive orders flowed out of DC during the Bush years and under Obama seem to never stop. Since Bush vetoed few or maybe no bills during his tenure, we can only conclude that Congress was running the country the way they saw fit. Today is no different, things are going to hell in the proverbial handbasket and Congress plays dumb. Novbody is better at that than they are.

Cronkite and Me

it's all over. History revision has long been a popular parlor game and as American as the other icons of our society, such as baseball, mom and the pie du jour. If you have an opinion, however misguided, chances are you will find a kindred spirit with whom to commiserate. Since Cronkite is unable to come back and debate this collections of intellectual lightweights, why bother bitching about what he may or may not have done? I now return you to "American Idol" which really reflects the will of the people.

A Post-Racial President?

As Dr. Sowell eloquently points out, we elected a community organizer who worked in predominently black communities. Who is more popular in those neighborhoods, Bill Cosby, Dr Sowell or Al Sharpton or Barack Obama? How did the popular ones get to be popular? During the campaign, BHO deftly sidestepped the race issue, but now that the weight of the office bears down on him, his fuse has shortened. Is this the start of a trend?

Medical Care Confusion

before it is too late. Until health care is disconnected from the employer and a rating system developed that penalizes individuals who persist in high risk behaviors, until every qualified student is able to find a chair in a quality medical school we will have a shortage of doctors. Finally, until patients and care givers agree to binding arbitration over malpractice issues we have no idea what the real costs of American Healthcare might be.

here? Rather than point the finger at any one POTUS, I suggest we examine Fascism as a political idea. In short, fascism is an unholy alliance between government and corporations designed to control the economic development of a country from a centralized location. USPS delivers letters. UPS delivers packages. Both are union shops. FedEx has union components, but is not a union shop. The fascist approach would be to let dissatisfied workers hamper FedEx through wildcat and localized strikes until UPS and USPS decimates their business which would leave two de facto government shipping companies whose members are obligated to the centralized authority. Am I off base with this theory?

gets paid to spout this drivel. Considering that one representative answers to almost 700,000 people, is it surprising that they can't please us all. The founders envisioned 1:30,000. Nuff said.

Burt. All this whining by Republicans or those who claim to be so does nothing to rebrand or rebuild our party. Isn't it time to remove the influence of the religious wing of the party? Isn't it time we work to staunch the flow of red ink that pours out of DC? Isn't it time to stop wire tapping and other privacy violations that violate and cheapen our constitution. Isn't it time we kick government out of their unholy alliances with corporate CEOs and let corporations rise and fall on their merit not their congressional connections? Isn't it time that we hold the Federal government responsible for keeping their hands off issues not covered in the Constitution. Isn't it time that we hold our states elected officials responsible for...

but unequal from that moment on. We offer a free public education from K-12 in hopes that individuals willing to apply themselves will work to improve their station in life. Teachers do NOT prevent people from learning, although I admit some teachers are better than others. Not all lawyers, generals or doctors were at the head of their class either. Any kid who turns off his iPod and cell phone long enough to pay attention should know the score. Some people will always out achieve others, that's the way it is. Equal protection does NOT mean favor one group over another no matter the percieved or real injustices suffered bny the previous generations. Turn off the damn TV folks, read a book, work at a menial job until something...
but short of the mark. I would prefer a complete shut down of all federal services for six months. Too many of us have no concept of how far our "benign" overlords have reached into the very fiber of our lives. A successful business man pares expenses in proportion to income. Unfortunately, an MBA from Yale and a JD from Harvard don't get it. It is not the economy, it's the spending. There are millions of entitlements and neatly hidden expenses that drain our resources and strangle us financially. We are more than willing to cut off those "other SOBs" who keep us poor, but then we discover that while our neighbor is an "other", we are his "other". Band aids on severed arteries seldom save the patient. Maybe we should chose a 50...
