No, the government would not have to support polygamy. That's simply a false argument to support continuing to discriminate against gays.
The same rights any heterosexual couple has Kevlar.
In the end, it's a question of "when," not "if." Even the staunchest conservative has to admit that support for same-sex marriage has continued to grow--relatively quickly too. And younger people are far more likely to support it. At some point, the tipping point will be reached.
Maybe because it is the right thing to do. Not the easy thing, but the right thing. As far as asking you to change your morals, no one said anyone was going to be forced into homosexual marriages. And if you want to teach your kids it's wrong, then go ahead and do so. Allowing same-sex marriages really has no effect on you.
The state does have an interest in guaranteeing equal rights and respecting all its citizens. So yeah, it does have an interest.

As to jdahlberg's comments, I may not personally agree with those things you listed, but I do believe that it's an individual's right to choose. I will not force Christianity on anyone, and believe that while God wants people to choose his way, he gives them the freedom to make that choice. If there is no freedom to choose, then there is no choice.

Thanks for the clear, thoughtful , and polite comments below about my question to enumerate the reasons you all think liberalism and Christianity are irreconcilable. As far as most of the comments, if you feel that paying taxes and participating in the society that has been established is slavery, then you're arguments make sense. I completely disagree that that is slavery, and so that argument holds no water for me, however. After all, "And Jesus answering said unto them, 'Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.' And they marvelled at him."
After all, women have been finding ways to make money with their bodies for eons.
Yes, there is a difference. One wants to give the same rights and respect to all Americans. The other wants to spread those rights scatter shot across the nation, where homosexuals in some states will continue to receive secondary citizen status, while those in other states will finally have equal rights.
