How Michael Barone can say that Governor Granholm has been an able governor is beyond me. She has been a complete disaster for the state of Michigan. She has pushed green jobs, which statics indicate that for every 1 green job developed 2 other jobs disappear. Now she is pushing another increase in minimum wage, which statics also show increases unemployment. This is all for a state with one of the highest unemployment rates in the country 15.2%. She has not been able to work with Republicans and because of this in the past has shut down state government because she could not get a budget agreement with the legislature in time. The best quote I read about her was that "Governor Granholm loves being governor, but hates governing." ...

The Nobler Nobels

As a woman, who has worked as a medical researcher and an engineer, I disagree entirely with Carol Greider on the discrimination against women in science. The difference between men's attitudes in the 1980's and today is incredible. In the 80's I heard men talk about women with babies and kids should not work, and the only women in engineering that I saw promoted were so overqualified that it was ridicules. Today I don't hear any negative comments about women engineers, unless it is deserved. It is an amazing difference. Another note: am I the only one who thinks it is strange that Carol Greider was working on Christmas day?

We Need a Bigger House

Yes, a bigger house with some stationed in Washington DC and most working in their home districts and working with the other representative by computer. We could have some representatives even work out of their homes or at the offices in their districts. Think of how hard it would be for lobbyists if 2/3 of the House was back in their home states. Also, members of Congress should have NO pensions. They should have 401K's like the rest of us.
