Come on Republicans, stand firm on principles: no increase in the debt ceiling! None! Nada! The vast majority of people who will be impacted by cuts are government employees and people receiving "entitlement" (unearned gifts). They are ALREADY Democrats! They are afraid to cut spending, because then rich rent-seekers will quit giving them campaign cash to maintain the spending that goes to them, and instead they'll be giving it to their opponents. And that's what the RNC and Republican operatives believe as well.

The more power government has to pick winners and losers, the more power the rich (including the politicians) will have relative to the rest of us.
Okay, it’s official. According to the Treasury Department, the U.S. debt jumped to $16.1 trillion in 2012 from $14.8 trillion in 2011. That’s a $1.3 trillion deficit for the last year. Remarkable. During President Obama’s first term, the federal debt rose by roughly $6 trillion.
 
Now, if they are bold, House Republicans will take advantage of these dismal numbers. Bold means bold spending cuts, as in cut spending like there’s no tomorrow.
