The Dead Soul of Adam Lanza

What is the problem? It is a combination of many things. We have a gun lobby that stiff-arms any and all reasonable restrictions. We have an entertainment industry that pollutes the minds of young people by celebrating a culture of death. As a community, we do a poor job addressing mental disorders. Worse yet, we have a society that worships celebrity—a nation that has kicked God out of the public square. The result is a growing number of psychopaths who want to push the envelope to attain fame, and they are doing so in a society where there is very little resistance to that envelope. As Dostoevsky said: “If God does not exist, everything is permitted.”

Liberals snidely ask pastors: “Where is God?” But it is Pastors, and citizens, who need to ask of Liberals: “Where is God?” There is plenty of blame to go around, but liberals always repel blame and point the fingers at others. Make no mistake, responsibility for the rejection of God in our nation should be placed squarely at the feet of liberalism.

Leftists insist the problem is with guns. Reasonable people should be for tighter controls on certain guns; but, of course, people have always had guns. Someone noted that this problem did not exist prior to 1973 when Roe Vs. Wade came down. Since then, we are a society that no longer believes in the “dignity of human life.” It is no surprise, then, that when coupled with our narcissistic culture, we would reap this evil. Make no mistake, responsibility for this growing societal cancer should be placed squarely at the feet of liberalism.

As a society, we should explore solutions, but we must do so in a broad-based manner. Yes, we should look at more effective gun controls. Yes, we should look at more effective treatment of mental disorders. But, we must also look at the implications of secularization. Mental disorders are a symptom. Just as back pain is a symptom of scoliosis of the spine. Mental illness is merely a symptom of the real problem: “scoliosis of the soul.” And make no mistake, responsibility for our unfettered spiritual bentness should be placed squarely at the feet of liberalism.

"No set of laws can eliminate evil from the world, or prevent every senseless act of violence in our society."

So said President Obama in words of comfort in Newtown. The president was right to speak of evil, but mistaken when he called the massacre "senseless."

For this was a premeditated and purposeful act of mass murder, and the devil that did it knew exactly what he was doing and why.

When he put four bullets into his mother's head while she lay in bed, Adam Lanza wanted her life ended along with his. When he headed for Sandy Hook Elementary,...
