I would just like to point out that IF you are going to go back to what was legal to own when the Second Amendment was enacted, back then there were privately owned cannons. Somehow I can't see the Brady bunch signing off on my personal howitzer.

Apparently, in the sequential thinking of James Madison and the Founding Fathers, the right to free expression and the guarantee to own arms were the two most important personal liberties.
