My son is in the shadow of the Hindu Kush at a god forsaken COB called Mace, just downstream from Keating, where the recent, and avoidable, loss of brave soldiers of the 4th BCT, 4th ID took place. Those trained and in-place warriors saw it coming, warned command but were told to sit tight. With tragic results for the friends and squadron mates, indeed, my son's Ft Knox classmates who perished defending our freedoms.

My son, my soldier told me about similar hair raising battles at his COP when he was on leave just a month ago. He was lucky that tragedy did not befall him those times.
