Big, great point. First, you ask me to explain why I am a liberal. I am liberal because I don't think government and/or the church should be telling me how to live without asking me first. And I think you are wrong for being a capitalist and a conservative because conservationism is based on 1st century static thinking. And capitalism is based on 18th century thinking. We live in an information age. We have 21st century technology available to us. We don't have to follow the paradigms of the past. We can come up with new paradigms. Perhaps that is the biggest reason I am a liberal. I want a lot of change in the world. But I want that change to use 21st century thinking, not 1st or 18th century thinking.

1) Working hard, being self-reliant and taking responsibility for your own life are good for you and will make you much happier than having too much leisure time, being overly dependent and giving others responsibility for your life.

2) The more a behavior is rewarded with attention, fame, sympathy or money, the more of it we'll see. We recognize this almost instinctively when it comes to good behaviors, but we also tend to almost habitually block it out when it comes to behaviors we don't want to encourage.

3) There's nothing shameful about being poor -- but, if you stay...
