George Washington was truly a remarkable man. His integrity, honesty and service to the American Republic have never been equaled. While in office, he never took a pay check and when he finally retired he did not receive any pension or medical benefits. His farm was destroyed during the revolution and rebuilt by him not the government. All politicians today and in the future should be required to read "The Real George Washington" and conduct themselves accordingly. He wasn't perfect, no one is, but following his conduct will make any politician better.

The Washington Examiner has a few thoughts worth reading about why it's worth celebrating "George Washington's Birthday," as today officially is designated.  Often, we don't hear as much about President Washington, as a person, perhaps because few of his writings (especially compared to Presidents Jefferson and Lincoln) survive.
