Smartest thing Republicans have done in some time. It takes away the "Crazy House Republicans don't care about the nation and whether it defaults" argument and totally focuses attention to the Senate and the lack of a budget. Plus the public would likely (enthusiastically) get behind the idea of no-pay for no-work idea of tying the budget to congressional pay. I strongly suspect Boehner is WAY sharper than he gets credit for.

Or the person that can see the forest for the trees and understands that advocating an uncompromising position is a sure way to lose the war even if a few battles are won. Feel free to keep insisting on your way or no way and you can insist you're right to the other irrelevant nuts left by the wayside.

Kyll -- you don't win ANY wars by surrendering ALL of the battles. And that is exactly what the GOP has done.

Despite talking for months about using the debt ceiling as leverage to get Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to pass a budget, spending cuts and entitlement reform, House Republicans are expected to vote on a temporary debt ceiling increase tomorrow.

House leaders on Monday unveiled legislation to permit the government to continue borrowing money through May 18 in order to stave off a first-ever default on U.S. obligations. It is slated for a vote on Wednesday.
