Some political commentators insist Americans will cast their votes based on which candidate strikes them as better company for sharing a beer. This formula hurts Romney, since his Mormon faith keeps him far away from beer and since Obama displays more “cool” than the incurably square GOP nominee.

Nevertheless, a caller to my radio show suggested a far better way to pick the right president. She asked voters to imagine they’d won a million dollars from the lottery, and wanted to invest their money so it could support them for the rest of their lives. Who would you rather...
