Dr. Sowell fails to cite the true motivation behind gun-control politics. Yes there are many grassroots "useful idiots" who don't know the facts and can easily be carried by emotion, particularly in the wake of such a tragedy. To the politicians, however, it is just another crisis they wish to exploit in order to gain more control over the citizens. And since gun control will not reduce gun violence, it is ironically the perfect form of leverage -- the government will have to take more and more and more rights away in the name of "fixing the problem" since nothing they do will actually fix the problem.

Must every tragic mass shooting bring out the shrill ignorance of "gun control" advocates?

The key fallacy of so-called gun control laws is that such laws do not in fact control guns. They simply disarm law-abiding citizens, while people bent on violence find firearms readily available.

If gun control zealots had any respect for facts, they would have discovered this long ago, because there have been too many factual studies over the years to leave any serious doubt about gun control laws being not merely futile but counterproductive.
