The biggest problem with the Congress is the Congress is in session too much of the time, and they seem to feel that they have to generate new laws where none are needed. Laws do not prevent crime, they just define crimes. In too many instances the laws that the Congress generates create crimes such as if you do not do as we say you will be fined (taxed) or imprisoned. We should go back to the practice before the 16th amendment when Congress was a part time organization.

Although this line is attributed to many people, Wikiquote says that Gideon Tucker was the first to warn us that “No man’s life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session.”

This cartoon about Keynesian economics sort of makes the same point, but not with the same eloquence.
