The real problem is that the process leading to deportation gives too many rights to those that should be summarily deported. All or nearly all such individuals are given individual hearings. This consumes huge amounts of resources and is a bottleneck that limits the number that can be deported in a given amount of time. To add to this the illegals are given notices to appear for hearings and released, but then they simply don't show up; thus, wasting even more resources

"Specifically, Obama's new amnesty program will give illegal immigrants who have been in the United States for at least five years, and who are parents of U.S. citizens or legal residents, a three year work permit." And just how will the Obama Administration determine who has been in the country fo five or more years? Well, you see it will be too onerous a task to verify claims of such residency, so they will just use the "HONOR" system.

"We should be welcoming young workers, not making it difficult to impossible for newcomers to gain access to jobs Americans can't or won't fill." "Is there no one among them brave enough to stand up and say let's draft meaningful reform and make our borders more secure by providing legal ways for workers to come here?" There are legal ways for foreign workers to come here already.
"This executive order could protect up to 5 million people from deportation and possibly grant them work permits." Does anyone really believe that any significant number of those 5 million were in any danger of being deported while Obama remains President with or without his executive order? I sure don't. What he changed by the executive order is the issuance of work permits and social security cards to these illegals. This he has no authority to do.
"The most important and surprising was an agreement to curb emissions of greenhouse gases that cause global warming." There has been no net global warming over the past 15 to 17 years. If higher CO2 levels do cause higher temperatures, then lower CO2 levels would cause lower temperatures. For the global warming/Climate change faithful, be careful what you wish for.
While the Republicans will have a majority in both houses of the Congress next year, they will not have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate, nor the votes to override a veto without help from moderate Democrats.
