Questions the Press Doesn't Ask

Most of the Fourth Estate today suffers from the Walter Duranty syndrome. Duranty, Pulitzer Prize winner no less, was the New York Times man in Moscow during the 1920s and 1930s. During his time there, Duranty whitewashed Bolshevik atrocities, particularly Stalin's genocide of the landowners in the Ukraine, millions of whom were systematically starved to death. Duranty did not cover up these crimes because he was a communist. A twisted narcissist, Duranty did what he did for power and acclaim. To be feted, to be chic, to be popular kids with the political in-crowd. For that, like so many in the 4th estate today, he was willing to warp his writing beyond normal bias into outright distortion and lies of omission.

Roger Simon and Roger Kimball through PJ Media and New Criterion inaugurated the Walter Duranty Prize given to journalists and/or editors who most dishonor the profession. The first award went to Anna Wintour and Juliet Beck of Vogue for their glowing coverage of that "Rose of the Desert" Asma al-Assad, First Lady of Syria. The article appeared a month before Asma's husband started murdering his people by the thousands. Runners-up were Andrew Sullivan of Newsweek for his attacks on Sarah Palin and her Downs Syndrome son as well as his continued fawning over Obama, who says he reads Andrew's blog. Bob Simon of 60 Minutes for his segment about peace and love between Christians and Muslims in Palestine. My personal choice would be Paul Krugman.

Krugman has to be near the top, his commentary/bogus-economics are outrageous examples of misinformation.

Well said kgrammer! Is it the Fourth Estate or the Fifth Column? How anyone can take shills like Krugman and Sullivan seriously is beyond rational thought.

What about Piers Morgan? He was bad enough to get fired from his News job in England and have to go to CNN for work. THEY should fire him too,if he can't figure out how stupid Gun Control is. He's already been publicly beat down by the President of GOA AND Jesse Ventura,(both clips can be seen on YouTube) for his backwards thinking on the role of Guns in America.
Merry Christmas to the Fourth Estate! Hope you've enjoyed your goose or turkey or whatever your family tradition includes (latkes for those who are Jewish). When you return to work, there are a few loose ends on which you might want to follow up.

"Follow up." It's a term that has gone out of style in the age of Obama. You members of the press have become remarkably uncurious since he's been in the White House. A blanket of benevolent uncuriousness smothers news about Obama administration wrongdoing.

The Secretary of State, who took "full responsibility" for the Benghazi debacle,...
