Star of Cancer Ad Joe Soptic Offered a Buy Out by Bain

Joe Soptic was let go from the steel mill and he learned just how overpaid he'd been. Despite a strong economy, the only work he found paid half as much as Romney was paying him. It was government work so it had lots of benefits. His wife had health insurance through her job, but when she quit, Joe didn't put her on his plan. Due to new taxes, cigarettes have become extremely expensive and the Soptics decided to spend their money on smokes instead of for doctor visits. They paid a sad price for skipping the doctor because by the time she went…the tobacco had taken its toll. If Nancy, Harry and Barack hadn’t raised cigarette taxes so high...Mrs. Soptic would still be with us.

For two days we've been led to believe Bain Capital (two years after Mitt Romney officially left the company) destroyed the life of steelworker Joe Soptic by laying him off. No mention of a buyout, no mention of benefit payouts. Bain simply came in and handed workers a pink slip. Turns out, that's not the case. In an interview with Democracy Now, Soptic admits he was offered a buyout by Bain, something he has failed to mention until now.
