We're even doing it in Houston - not high speed trains - "light rail". Like California, it doesn't start between the highly populated areas, but INSIDE the city! Guess what? The trains are EMPTY! I'm hoping that the rest of the country that paid for this is pleased with the result, No wait...they'll never know.
It's a joke. Politicians are allowed to bribe as a daily mode of business, yet they create laws intended to jail business people at highest levels that aren't even involved (FCPA). Extortion is the rule of the day - vote for my deal or I'll kill yours - while it's a felony for most folks. they continue to 'borrow' from Social Security, yet create laws to jail a business leader should they do the same. the double standard list is lengthy, but I'll stop here. Shameful - they are so used to it, it all seems ethical to them.

Interesting how lawmakers can do the same things us pitiful citizens would be sent to jail for doing. Shameful. This has been 'out there' for many administrations and many changes of control in both legislatures. It's clear we have not had a majority of elected officials working for the American people in quite a long time. They are not to be trusted.
Between the lawyers and the bureaucrats, we are fast becoming a third world nation. With all the unnecessary complication that only lawyers can invent, I have to remind myself at times that I'm dealing with the U.S., not one our South American or West African countries of operation.

I graduated from an ultra-liberal ivy league college in 1972. All the student protesters (SDS, etc) became professors and journalists and hence the origin of where we are today. My philosophy prof gave me a D for a double blue book response that was very well written but against the socialist philosophy he taught. My next door neighbor wrote 2 pages of unintelligible garbage and got an A. Still going on...sad.

Let's add Dep't of Energy. I don't know what it costs, but I do know it has never come close to fulfilling it's mission of reducing our dependence on foreign oil. In fact, we import far more today as a percentage of demand than we did way back when....
Maybe it wasn't surrender as much as retreat to fight another day on this issue. Making a deal now that only lasts two years give another chance in 2012 where (a) he might still be in power, and (b) he might have a few more party members in place than he will the next two years. The deal that may have passed with the new Congress might have been a lot longer lasting, denying Dems the chance to dismantle it for much longer. As it is, we'll see how much pork gets in the final version. I'm expecting it will be shameful.
If it had been anyone else, she would have been deported. Typical of elitists, rules are for other people. Political assylum from Kenya? This is abuse of power. All are not equal under the law.
