Chevy Volt Follows Stupid 2012 with Stupider 2013

Before all of you throw said Volt under the bus, have any of you dirven one? or have even put your $ down and bought one? probably not, But I have! and I love it! I live on an island off the coast of N.E., and the only reason I have to by gas now, is because after you do not use any, (drive less than 40 miles a day) and not have to use the gasoline engine while driving, the computer in the car makes the engine run, so the gas does not get stale, and if not for that reason alone, I would not have had to buy any gas last yr! and then I have gone the whole yrs with just 102gals!!! and that is because I took a trip to Fla, and that is where I had to buy 1/2 of that! and got 40mpg on a 2400mile trip!, I have had no problems with the Volt!

You are right, The Volt is a great vehicle. I drove 5100 miles on 9.5 gallons of gas. I think that is over 500 mpg. I drove 192 miles in one day on electric only. I would never give up my Volt.

Thanks for the input, obama

Yes, and everyone else subsidized your purchase to the tune of $48,000, I'm sure your grandchildren will appreciate the debt you heaped upon their shoulders.
eellyatt Wrote: Mar 04, 2013 8:05 PM
My tax credit (yes my money I paid in taxes) not your money I spent when I got it back after a year of owning my Volt to help the economy. You're welcome.

If I lived on an Island where an electric clown-car was practical, I'd probably just ride my bike. As for myself, I have a 40 minute commute through farm country, half the year in questionable weather. A Chevy Volt, make with as cheap a material as possible, wouldn't last but a couple of years and would never pay for itself like a modern economical gasoline sedan.
jimbo999 Wrote: Feb 11, 2013 2:14 PM
I have a Pontiac Firebird TransAm that's even better than your Volt.
I used NO gas last year because it's in my garage.
That's better than an island.

So you think that we should continue to subsidize GM to produce something that few people can afford or even want just because you "luv" it? That is what liberals do, require that the populous subsidize their extravagant living style at our expense. I am sorry, but a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood will not fit into a Volt. I live in the country and need a wee bit more size just to haul things to keep the roof on our house from eventually coming down on us. I could never afford the battery replacements nor make it to work without a switch-over. I keep a vehicle until it is no longer safe to drive or until it is no longer economically practical to repair it. I do not subscribe to the "fun to drive" cult.
eellyatt Wrote: Mar 04, 2013 7:55 PM
I know a Volt owner who pulls a trailer for the little time he needs to haul 4 X 8 sheets of plywood.

OK. So you're a fool. You spent $40K to buy a car that performs like one that costs $22K. And you think you're ahead because you hardly ever have to buy gasoline.

Let's calculate.

At $4/gallon and 37 mpg you will have to drive more than 200,000 miles on electric power to break even on the price of the car. At 35 miles/day (maximum) on the battery it will take you 16 years to break even.

Congratulations, chump.

eellyatt Wrote: Mar 04, 2013 7:51 PM
I drive many more miles than 35 per day. 33,000 in 2 years on electricity. And for my $35,000 I love driving a luxury ride smoothly and in silence. So far I have saved $7000.00 in fuel and unrequired preventive maintence so in 10 years I pay for my entire car not just the difference between it and a $22,000.00 econobox. Now who is the chump.

Good luck on the resale. They're worth zero.
ericynot Wrote: Feb 11, 2013 2:23 PM
john martin, according to Kelly Blue Book, a 2012 Volt with 10,000 miles is worth about $30,000.
eellyatt Wrote: Mar 04, 2013 7:46 PM
Sounds like next to no depreciation.
Kevin32 Wrote: Feb 11, 2013 1:18 PM
and if you are wondering about my electric bill, it has gone up about $60-$80 a month! till the local market built a solar plug in station in their parking lot for cust. under carports, and because he is a good friend of mine and I do all my shopping there, and I work within walkin dist, I leave my Volt parked there in good weather, and now I one have a $40 increase in my electric bill! and that is from the sun! I have great respect for the Volt, but NOT for obalmer! or his gov! the $$$ is wasa spending on gas alone, pays for the Volt, and I did not use the taxpayers $ in tax refunds! I did not need it! I am probably the only fool who has not though! and it should only be granted in a means test, of how much said buyer has filed for!
george washington Wrote: Feb 11, 2013 1:25 PM
If you actually bought a Volt, you owe the Treasury $48,000 for the subsidies you stole from the government (me).

The car cost $88,000 to produce.
IsraelFirsterSecond Wrote: Feb 11, 2013 1:41 PM
What were you spending on gas per month on an island?
gwinters Wrote: Feb 11, 2013 2:34 PM
Leech.I now know who is benefiting from the increase in my electric bill. Subsidized Volt owners.
PhillupSpace2 Wrote: Feb 11, 2013 2:54 PM
They burn oil (Indonesian, I believe) to generate electricity in California. So which do you think is cheaper, the oil or the electricity?
Ed52 Wrote: Feb 11, 2013 3:15 PM
So it's a great car because someone else pays a lot of your energy costs for a car that the the government subsidized so you wouldn't have to pay full price.
Wait until you look for someone to pay for replacement batteries - they don't last forever.
There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch - somebody, somewhere pays.
eellyatt Wrote: Mar 04, 2013 7:42 PM
Not true. Ask Bob Lutz. He should know he was Mr Volt himself and a consevative Republican.
eellyatt Wrote: Mar 04, 2013 7:43 PM
Not true no electricity in Cali is from oil.
eellyatt Wrote: Mar 04, 2013 7:45 PM
I will gladly pay for my new battery pack after twelve years. Then I will have a new life for my Volt. Not true about gas cars.
Buck O Wrote: Feb 11, 2013 1:17 PM
On an island, the Volt probably makes sense. Everywhere else, not so much.
Pistol Wrote: Feb 11, 2013 7:29 PM
But not as much sense as a golf cart.
eellyatt Wrote: Mar 04, 2013 7:37 PM
It makes sense in my garage and everywhere I drive.
eellyatt Wrote: Mar 04, 2013 7:39 PM
I would like to see a gof cart do 101 miles per hour. A volt can and on battery only.
jlindberg Wrote: Mar 16, 2013 3:23 PM
I live in WA state (not an island) and commute 36 miles a day. I have never bought gas for my Volt in 2 months of owning it. My gas bill went from $300/mo to $75/mo (wife drives on gas). My purchase cost for the Volt with gas savings is about $250/mo (zero down financed tax lic and all) disclaimer - I was driving a 14 mpg Jeep. I like how these guys can claim "Bullshyte" on the true facts. The Volt makes lots of sense if you drive a commute that is 100 miles or less.
jlindberg Wrote: Mar 16, 2013 3:26 PM
A guy at work drives a Volt everyday 61 mile commute, he is averaging 115 mpg and has made a couple long trips (all on gas) and still has an average of 115 mpg. On-Star has my average at over 700mpg. How can anyone argue with these numbers or the car that makes this possible?

After a year that can only be described as “stupid,” the Chevy Volt is gearing up to make 2013 even stupider still.

I know, I know.

You find it hard to believe that a mostly-owned subsidiary of the United States government and the Obama administration- like GM is- could get any stupider than say Fannie Mae, or Federal Reserve Bank.

Yes, that’s tough competition, but in the “idiocy” category GM seems to be the ruling champion.

Not only have they lost substantial amounts of taxpayer dollars, they have managed to do it while generating record profits...
