I guess it's safe to assume that the president wasn't flying British Airways, which has a policy forbidding men from sitting next to unrelated children flying alone:

Some of the best learning that occurs on college campuses occurs outside the classroom. The fact of the matter is--despite the efforts of the PC-mongers to keep everyone in a nice little cocoon--once you get out of college and into the real world, you're going to have to deal with people. Not all of those people are going to like you, and some will be outright @$$holes to you. It's far better to learn how to grow that thicker skin that others...
