Is the Welfare State a Ponzi Scheme?

The government took money from me and my past employers to hold and invest as social security. Now giving me back my money is called welfare. Welfare? Just give me back my money and get out of my life.

Now when the teachers start to criticize my comments I ask them to do one thing. Tell us how many semesters of each of the following are required for their teaching credential:
American History
World History
Geography
Literature

History of Feminism, History of Gays in Literature and the such don't count.

Dear Oldtimer:
I agree with what you say, however, it includes a false assumption. That assumption is that teachers know the truth.
There is this unfortunate truth that many teachers go to teacher colleges where the emphasis is on how to teach and little attention to things like history. Then what history is taught is as lacking in the truth as is what they pass along.
We know what the Democrats are smoking because now they're trying to get it legalized.

Regarding the VAT: This would give the government the ultimate in life control. It would be strategically applied to do so by applying tax to things it didn't want and exempting tax from things it does. It would help them control what we eat, what we drive and where we live.

Here's a silly,but actual, example from the U.K.
If you buy one to six dougnuts there is no VAT; if you buy seven or more dougnuts a VAT is applied.

No VAT or sales tax would ever be evenly applied. The only fair tax would be a flat tax. Then when the government wanted more money everyone would be impacted and concerned.

I lhave to wonder if the President's move to isolate Israel isn't intentional, thinking that once isolated, Israel will feel that they have no choice but to attack Iran on their own.

That would get the job done and it would "be off the President's back", leaving him to make nice with the rest of the middle east.
It must be a truism that all things in this life and on this planet must have a maximum limit, i.e. be finite. However, for the President to claim that the resource of oil is finite at the same time hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil are streaming from one well in the bottom of the ocean seems more that slightly disingenuous.

The slugs going in and out of our local pot clinic sure don't have any trouble seeing. They tend to be young or left over hippies.

My doc, who has a Phd. as well as an M.D., says there is nothing that pot can do that other legal drugs can-- except provide a trip.

I don't understand these things so I need help from a scientist:
We've heard from those saving the earth that we've been loosing the ice pack in Iceland. I assume that this volcano didn't get hot over night. Could that subterranean percolating heat have caused the problem, rather than my Hummer SUV?

Obama's Nuclear Posturing, Part Deux

I guess if the U.S. was really worried about Canada it wouldn't have arranged for Canada's purchase of the multi-tons of yellow cake uranium uncovered by U.S. forces in Iraq. That's the stuff used to make dirty bombs.

I really have to question the lack of concern regarding Russia's nuclear programs. Its agressive actions over the last few years make me wonder if, in fact, they are developing later generation nuclear weapons.

Then there's China. Does anyone doubt they intend to become the greatest power in the world? Would that be possible without becoming the strongest nuclear power in the world?
