Jimmy Carter’s Libel Israel Week

loadstar, I can't believe the "load" of cr*p you're spouting here. You may be right about the lobbying, the amount of aid, whatever. I don't really know, though I think the Hagel-esque paranoia makes you sound like an idiot. But, like Jimmy you are completely wrong about Israel. You need to look at the reality of what is going on there, without carrying all your baggage from the long-ago days of Fulbright. The French expression is indeed very apt. Imagine if the Mexican government allowed the Medellin to lob thousands of rockets over the border into the U.S. Do you think we should just stick our chin out and take it? You and other anti-Israel anti-intellectuals may be sincere, but you sound anti-Semitic.

I now teach business/economics to college students and was a high level banker ($15M of personal approval authority) in my first career. I look at things as they ARE, not as how the neoCON media (omnipresent on TH) suggest, or the gullible fathom.

In the case of Israel, NEVER have so many been made to do so much for so few under the facile excuse of its being "the only democracy in the M.E." Besides, Israel came very close to voting to be a socialist state.

We took out Iraq because the Pan-Israeli cabal then surrounding Dubya (Wolfy, Perle, Feith, Libby, Abrams, Fleischer, Senor, Frum, Wurmser) drove us to do so-- for Israel! The all-in cost of that (per economist Stiglitz) could total $3T, or $600k per Israeli!

Lodestar:

So the Israelis almost became a socialist state?

The U.S. almost became a monarchy.

Like the rest of your post, those observations are agitprop.

The Israelis spent more than a year trying to talk the U.S. out of invading Iraq.

The Israelis -- they’re smarter than you, Lodestar -- had NOTHING to fear from the secular Saddam Hussein, and EVERYTHING to fear if he were neutralized. His disappearance would leave Iran master of the Persian Gulf and put Israel at enormous risk.

If you haven’t noticed, that’s EXACTLY what happened.

The only agitator of any importance here is the one in my washing machine. Tell me, is it you or the detergent or the hot water that does such a good job on my dirty drawers?

Some politically correct colleges in America and Western Europe observe something they call “Israel Apartheid Week.” It’s another opportunity to libel Israel for building a defensive perimeter to keep out Arab suicide bombers. These misguided young people who libel the only democracy in the Mideast look to former President Jimmy Carter for their inspiration. Carter was the most prominent person in the world to apply the hated term apartheid to Israel’s purely defensive barrier. Carter’s book, Palestine: Peace not Apartheid, has served as a text for the libelers of Israel.

The French have an apt expression for what Israel...
