Wake Up, Socially Liberal Fiscal Conservatives

One cannot be a fiscal conservative without being socially conservative as well. Indeed, the collapse of the traditional social structure is a chief factor in our fiscal demise. For example, the collapse of the black family and many white families as well), post-Great Society, has simply pushed more individuals into the "taker" class. Government can never hope to make up the shortfall when a society collectively shrugs its shoulders and joins the class of those dependent on government. The left has been able to wave the bloody shirt of abortion for years as way of stigmitizing the right as the party that wants to control people's lives, while, hypocritically engineering a whole range of big government programs to do just that.

What drivel! I am extremely fiscally conservative, do not support government meddling in our lives, gun control, or welfare to anyone - individual or corporate. I also could not care less what people put in their own bodies or who they want to marry. I have reservations about the abortion issue, but think that federal regulation is probably not the best solution.

"One cannot be a fiscal conservative without being socially conservative as well."

Utter nonsense. Your inability to live in the real world is the antithesis of conservatism.

This "you need to agree with us on EVERYTHING else - guns, abortion, gay marriage, immigration, EVERYTHING - to agree with us on money" attitude is another reason why the Right is seen as irrational extremists.

It is the very fact that we will not all agree that is the reason government should stay out of these things all together. Government tries to force us to agree against our wills and our morality. Something they have no authority to do.

Once AGAIN, government meddling in trying to fix a problem, exacerbated one and destroyed black families. You want more of this? Government didn't do enough damage to suit you?

Dear Socially Liberal Fiscal Conservative Friend,

That's pretty toothy, so I'm going to call you Bob.

But whatever specific name you go by, Bob, you know who you are. You're the sort of person who says to his conservative friends or co-workers something like, "I would totally vote for Republicans if they could just give up on these crazy social issues."

When you explain your votes for Barack Obama, you talk about how Republicans used to be much more moderate and focused on important things such as low taxes, fiscal discipline and balanced budgets.

When Colin Powell was on "Meet the...
