The girl who said, "The redcoats are coming." was probably right. Paul Revere and most Americans in those days considered themselves British subjects. They were fighting for their rights as Englishmen. It would not have made sense for him to have said, "The British are coming." He was British.

Here Comes the Value Added Tax

The federal gov should sell off some of its real estate to pay the national debt. In some states it owns 90% of the property. This would help the states as well because putting that property in private hands would increase their tax base.
I almost voted Republican because of Palin. I voted for Bob Barr instead. I was fairly sure Obama would not get South Carolina’s electoral votes. If it had been close, I would have probably voted Republican.

A Thankful Message for President Obama

As a military retiree I did not get a COLA this year but my withholding went up involuntarily, my income is taxed more. Something similar happened to Social Security receivers. They got no COLA but their medicare fee went up. I heard they were going to get some kind of one-time payment, but I don't know if it makes up the difference or not. It certainly won't next year. So, yeah Thanks, Obama.
I once thought that Islam needed to have a reformation like Christianity did by going back to the original texts of their religion. However, I read the Koran and realized that they already had one. Radical Islam is the result; jihad is called for in the Koran. No matter what sins so-called Christians have committed, none of them can claim that Jesus called for them to kill people. Fundamentalist Moslems cannot claim the same thing. Mohammed does call for his followers to kill Jews and Christians and other infidels. The only Moslems non-Moslems can get along with are those who don’t follow their religious texts faithfully.

The German tribes were not conquered. They converted to Christianity primarily because their leaders prayed to the Christian God and won battles. They put crosses on their shields and won again. They didn't go into the theology much. Results are what mattered. BTW, the Goths, Visigoths, and Vandals who sacked Rome, Spain, and North Africa were Arian Christians, whose beliefs were similar to modern day Mormons. They thought God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost were three separate gods.
Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters probably thought Eddie Murphy’s skit, “Day in the Life of a White Man” was a documentary, not a skit. Many black people believe that white people don’t have to go by the rules or pay their fair share. So, when they get in charge, they think they should not have to follow the rules either. It’s just racism to make black people go by the rules. As someone else has said, irony is not just lost here. Sometimes it just runs away.

Looking For Right-Wing Terrorists

Right wing terrorists, left wing terrorists are taking action. In addition to killing anti-abortion activists, I noticed that the radio towers of radio station KRKO, somewhere on the west coast, were toppled by vandals who left signs pointing to ELF, Earth Liberation Front, a radical environmental group. I Googled KRKO and learned that station carried Rush Limbaugh, Mike Savage, and Sean Hannity. I have not seen this fact pointed out anywhere on the net or news so far. It is clear to me that this act of domestic terrorism was intended to stifle conservative free speech. I think more people need to know this.

One thing for sure, Barack Obama is no Nelson Mandella. As such, he may have poisoned the well for many aspiring black politicians in the future.

The Arizona law is almost word-for-word the same as the federal law except it makes infractions a state crime as well as a federal crime. It’s true that under the supremacy doctrine, federal law trumps state law, but only when they conflict. I think this puts the law in the same category as other concurrent jurisdiction infractions like drug crimes and gun crimes. Prosecutors have the choice, in many states, to bring charges in federal court or state court. In Virginia, prosecutors have been bringing charges in federal court for gun crimes because the penalties are greater there, even though the infractions are state crimes as well. In Arizona, under the new law, state court would be the best choice to get action taken because the...
