One of our local high schools uses the nickname "Bombers" and the symbol is a mushroom cloud. They face the PC police from all over the country on a regular basis.
I found that the IRS rules relative to Medical Savings Accounts require that you must not be enrolled in Medicare. The Social Security folks do. not care about that rule and will try to troll you regardless. So if your employer insurance includes a Medical Savings Account make sure you know the rule of both organization at age 65.
I suggest that the Feds call a nation wide weather alert on Friday so that all unnecessary workers do not have to report for work. This will provide the layoff list.
Neither candidate has proposed the development of an integrated energy policy which will look at all potential uses of our energy resources and also the relationship to fresh water usage. Petroleum is primarily used for transportation fuel while coal, uranium and renewable resources are primarily used for electricity generation. Natural gas is unique in that it has many applications such a heating fuel, transportation fuel, electricity generation, chemical feedstock, and agricultural chemicals. This is why an integrated policy is required so that resources are evaluated for all potential uses.

First, Throw Out the Wonks

One big problem we have with government is the bureaucrats and “wonks” who are those who write the regulations and spend the money. I have worked with DOE since it existed and we call those folks the “we-bees” that is those who are there now and will be there 5-10 years from now. They don’t care who is in the administration they only care about preserving their own jobs. They are the ones who make policy not our elected persons in the executive and legislative branches of government. Until we have a way to change those long term bureaucrats we will have a very hard time changing policy.
Nathan, I suggest you check your numbers. You state that China is going to build 600 megawatts of coal fired capacity over the next 25 years. That is essentially nothing. The nuclear plants under construction today in China will generate 1000 megawatts each.

We Need to Change the Politicians

We not only need to change politicians, we also need to change the long term bureaucrats in our government. I refer to them as the "webes". Remember they run the show by writing the detailed regulations that implement the law.

I suggest that a study of the book "Beyond The Atom" be John DeVries would bring an interesting view into this discussion. The book was published around 1950.
