Life expectancy numbers are easy to fudge. Everything depends on what you include and which deaths you exclude. It bothers me that we claim longer average life than in the the past but we leave out the deaths at early ages that seriously lower our current average life spans. We have an awful lot of people who die the day they are born and they are not included in the calculation. Include babies who die the same day they leave the womb and the numbers will not look so hot for modern Americans.

Perhaps you should include abortions in your calculations. All statistics can be used to support a lie. AGW FEX is an exercise in essentially cherry picking data at best to fit a conclusion.
Somewhat similar to the familiar 'science' experiment where a student places an ice cube in 1 Oz of hot water and another in 5 oz of cold water. then when the ice cube in the cold water melts most quickly they are asked to draw conclusions. Usually they are led to an erroneous conclusion that defies common sense.

When you consider that our infant mortality does include those that die the day that they are born, while most countries count those that die in the first week as still born. Who are you made at, Ken?

Maybe we ought to include all the abortions? Serious people when addressing a serious problem propose solutions that have not been tried yet. Google the Orion project and ask why we don't have working self-sustaining colonies on the moon and Mars at least?
Do we want to reduce the possibility that some catastrophic event will eliminate the human race? Then we need to be doing space exploration. Not just dabbling at it!

We don't have colonies on the moon and mars yet because it is cost prohibitive, not to mention that it is currently not possible. While the space program did spur many technological advances in many areas, we do not have the money to devote to figuring out how to, realistically, colonize the moon. Forget Mars for another 50-100 years.

Sorry, pet peeve. Not about SS, just life expectancy bragging. It is getting shorter, I bet.

So what is your point?

As the NYT link shows, there was condemnation of Gleick's action from those on all sides of the political spectrum.- Caught Red-Handed on Climate Change

Dear Comrade Mikey,

Why not admit that instead of Gleick making a "serious ethical error," that he committed a crime? Stealing is always wrong.

The irony is that you ask me...
