yep, 220 years ago, the people of the various states distrusted the idea of a standing, federal army. Their fears were misplaced then, and yours are misplaced now. Something in the last 220 years has proved to me that our government is most stable democracy-based system of government in the world. The argument that the 2nd Amendment is still needed in case you need to take up arms against your own government would be laughable - if it weren't so treasonous.
