What about all the conservative commentators who are reacting by saying the reason it happened is because "we took God out of the schools"? Isn't that politicizing the tragedy ?

Only if you admit that the subject of God has political affiliations.

Cleo: The obvious meaning to the assertion that taking God out of the schools contributed to this kind of act is that when people both in school and those out of school who were raised in a school system where God can be mentioned, have a sense of both meaning in believing in a creator who provides that meaning AND a sense of having ultimately to answer to that creator for his or her deeds, If you believe that your deeds will have ultimate consequences you damn well are more careful about what you do, especially regarding taking of the life of another. If you see life as meaningless, as in you got here as a product of slime - which is what is taught rather than you were created in the image of God.

If you see life as meaningless, as in you got here as a product of slime - which is taught rather than you were reated in the image of God, you will not care about the taking of life because you see it as meaningless. That is the God is dead from Nietzsche, who is the philosopher from the 19 century who seems to be the spokesman for the 20th and 21st century. Meaninglessness begest meaninglessness. if you do not believe in God please don't be a phony poser and ask "how can we see meaning in such events?" If there is no God, there is no meaning. It is just tough noogies. That's it. If you know that not a sparrow falls without God seeing it, you can have hope and a real different attitude in the face of the pathos of such an event.

Amen, Serpentdove.

But the gun ban advocates, in their zealotry to remove guns, will obscure this fact and will not learn from this incident and the parents will continue to allow their children to be conditioned to approach life from a humanist perspective without regards to Faith in God and will suffer the consequences.

I know it will not be well received but I keep going back to the incident in 2 Kings and the two she-bears.

In 1927, Bath Township Michigan, a man killed 44 adults (38 children) not including himself, and injured 58 more, when he blew up a school. God was still in the schools back then and he stood by and did nothing.

Wonderful. obviously the solution is to keep Him OUT of the schools, right?
That'll do it.

I’ll leave it to others better suited to comment on the horror of Friday afternoon in Newtown, Conn. I am not yet a parent and would not presume to understand the emotions involved in something like this.

But on the media reaction and exploitation that followed the horrific news, I will comment.

Simply put, it was disgusting.

I’ve said before how progressives will exploit anyone and anything to advance their agenda, but I’d always thought there was a line, somewhere, of decency they wouldn’t cross. I was wrong.

With the blood of the victims still wet, progressives began...
