Men Find Careers in Collecting Disability

As a 55 yearl old white male with various talents and experience, I'm having difficulty getting hired. Even though I WANT to work, I have no choice but to game the system and collect disability and food stamps. I can't even get a job at McDonalds because I "lack fast food experience". Last week a car wash place turned me down because my "skills did not meet their needs at this time." There is no Affirmative Action for old white males. He's on his own.

"I have no choice but to game the system"

Start your own business, why don't you?
Start a lawn mowing business.
I saw an old couple, man and wife, must have been in their '70s, just the other day, hard at work in somebody else's front yard, the wife pushing the mower, the husband doing the edging.
Here in the southwest, I could start a pool cleaning business tomorrow.
Get off your duff.

Upper middle class and wealthy old white males with advanced degrees don't actually have a problem getting hired, my company is full of them. Middle class and lower educated old white males with a high school diploma or less have a horrible time finding any work, though. But to be fair, so does the equivalent old white lower-class woman without any higher education. Ageism and classism are the worst discriminators. :(

Why would wealthy old white males with advanced degrees need work any more that the "average" white male??

White males...the most discriminated person in the US and with the public's approval. Sorry to hear your plight but people feel it's more important to give your jobs to minorities or illegal aliens. As far as gaming the system? Go for it.

You might want to put in an application with the SSA as a fraud investigator. I'm sure they need a few more people nowadays. No joke.

My 59-year-old sister finally got a job after about 9 months of working hard to find one. She's now working for her state's government. The doctors for whom she had worked for 25 years were cutting back. Kinda looks like government is the only "business" hiring.

Government is certainly doing well as far as creating phony bologna jobs. Another private sector is doing quite well also. That's the corrections facilities. Takes a lot of people to keep all those recreational pot smokers locked up. I hear the firearms industry is also doing well, especially since Owebama won hos second term. I happen to be a retired Vietnam veteran and spend most of my time prepping for the inevitable explosion of outrage coming to America, because when these giveaway programs run out of things to give away, and they will, these takers will continue to take, whatever they feel like taking. all I'm going to give them is a bunch of lead.

I call fraud to the first statement. I see plenty of older and other people working all kind of jobs as I do business here in Commie Cali where we have a higher unemployment rate than the nation. And surprisingly enough, I see faces change as people move to better jobs or get fired because they can't manage the one they have. I'm sure there is another reason this person can't find work if there was any thread of truth to their statement in the first place.

I honestly wish I knew what that "reason" was.
I had two good prospects a couple of months ago.
WIth one they hired a 40 something black female instead of me.
With the other they hired a far less experienced 25 year old white urban lesbian.
Age discrimination is palpable friend.

A white male age 55 or older has little chance of finding gainful employment . . . affirmative action, set-asides for females and minorities as well as a culture stacked against older white males all conspire to make landing a job difficult for white males. In addition, white males are shut out of ALL SBA loan "programs". You see, these "programs" are for foreigners only. I for one, don't blame Ken2896 for "gaming the system" He is merely getting back some of the "benefits" that he paid in all these years. Ken2896, Go for it" and don't be ashamed for what you have to do to survive. There are many of us in the same boat.

Americans are very generous to people with disabilities. Since passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act in 1990, millions of public and private dollars have been spent on curb cuts, bus lifts and special elevators.

The idea has been to enable people with disabilities to live and work with the same ease as others, as they make their way forward in life. I feel sure the large majority of Americans are pleased that we are doing this.

But there is another federal program for people with disabilities that has had an unhappier effect. This is the disability insurance (DI) program, which...
