The Church of Scotland's Scandal

When I read this, the first thing that came to mind is what Oliver Cromwell wrote to the Church of Scotland in 1650 to wit, "I beseech you in the bowels of Christ think it possible you may be mistaken." How right Cromwell was then-- and now.
The last time I went grocery shopping in the UK I had to deal with liters and kilograms and all that French nonsense. Even gas "petrol" is no longer sold in Imperial gallons. No one wants those measurements, and Parliament never approved going metric. The only English measurments left in England are the signs on roads, still marked in miles. How long that will remain is anybody's guess.

The Death of Genuine Debate

"It is the same problem that stopped his colleagues from calling out Major Hassan as a fanatic who could destroy lives." Actually it was Islamophobia-phobia. The Army was so afraid of being accused of Islamophobia that it refused to deal with Hassan.
This is yet another reason why I quit reading AP "news" stories beyond the headlines. Now if I see an AP story that I want read more than the headline, I search the internet and find another source.

Winning After Losing on Gay Marriage

This is exactly why I detest trial lawyers. They are, left and right, conservative and liberal, slimy bottom dwellers. To cave on a basic issue of morality shows those who cave lack morality. I'd rather be right and lose and to give up. Have you noticed that liberals don't give up even when it's not popular? Why should we give up our principles just because they may be momentarily not all that popular. It's a good thing Mr. Schlichter wasn't one of the early Christians else he'd have advised them to give up.
Smoking marijuana is even more carcinogenic than tobacco and so even discounting its hallucinogenic properties is the more dangerous of the two.
I was in Europe last year for a couple months and made a number of flights there. Never did I see anything so absurd as what we have to put up with on flights in the US. Why are we subjected to such nonsense yet apparently it is perfectly safe to fly within Europe without these extreme measures?
As a final slap, not only is the government gettting a fortune from me from my supposed capital gain but is socking me with an extra $7000 alternative minimum because apparently just getting 15% of a capital gain isn't enough for them since my supposed profit pushed me into the demonized top 1% for the year.
The capital gains tax is one of the most unfair taxes our government levies on us as it taxes a "profit" that is actually just an inflated gain. The government debases our currency then has the nerve to tax us on the gain we made in inflated dollars. I left the country for 20 years and rented out my house intending to live it again one day. As it turns out, when I returned I had a job elsewhere so couldn't move back to my old house. I wasn't doing that well renting the house and was tried of being a landlord with the headaches involved so finally sold it last year. I bought the house in 1982 and made a huge "gain" which really amounts to nothing as the selling price was about the same if inflation is taken into account.
Just because a president manages to scrape together a second term win doesn't mean that he is a successful. Popularity is not a sure sign of a good president, and in the case of Obama with the massive cheating that went on last year we can't even be sure that he truly won. The damage the Obama has wrought upon our nation is on par with both Pierce and Buchanan. We never truly recovered from the last recession thanks to bone headed and ham fisted policies that time has shown never ever work. Unemployment is high (though thanks to the way the government reports it the true rate is much higher than the official rate), and inflation is rampant (again the government misreports it). The nation is sick and falling apart like in 1860.
