I've noticed that when it comes to gun control, they never mean guns in the hands of the government. You're more likely to be accidentally shot by the police than by a citizen, but we never hear anyone ask "Just why does the EPA need MP5's and M16's?" or "Doesn't the IRS have enough semi-automatic shotguns?" or "There's no sporting purpose to 450 million rounds of hollowpoint ammunition." It's always the citizens they mean to disarm.

There’s an epidemic in this country, something that has or will affect all of us in our lives. And the government needs to act to protect us from those who may do us harm. This plague is particularly felt in schools. The children must be made safe.

President Obama, bravely speaking out against this horror, said, “We have an obligation to ensure that our schools are safe for all our kids.” Amen, Mr. President. Amen.
