Kathleen, Conservatives are either (a) too few in number to win a national election, or (b) could not be troubled to vote against a highly polarizing, poorly disguised socialist. Either way, they have a big problem.

To attract winning numbers, conservatives must ease up on either their fiscal or social doctrine (yes; they'll lose some hardliners along the way). Since things like gay marriage seem less a threat to the union than socialism, I'd recommend easing up on the social doctrine so you can recruit libertarians and fiscally conservative Dems and independents. Grateful libertarians might even agree to teach the conservatives how to form and articulate principles.

Other wise, you're going to get gay marriage AND a ruined economy.

I don't care what consenting adults do or what contracts for cohabitation they enter into so long as they don't harm others. I see no reason government needs to determine the terms of the marriage contract; I see no reason to involve government at all. On the other hand, abortion is killing people and government is not supposed to let that happen.

Earl, the insoluble issue of abortion is one of the issues conservatives are going to have to cede ground if they wish to win national elections. Whether abortion is or is not moral is not the question; the question is whether or not a stand against abortion will keep those who can save the country's economy from gaining power.

Again, the choice is abortion and a sound economy or abortion AND a ruined economy.

While fellow conservatives bash the president for telling Speaker of the House John Boehner that the country doesn’t have a spending problem, I offer Barack Obama another thank-you.

Just when I thought that the GOP’s own ineptitude was going to sink the party, the man-who-would-be-president proved once again that when it comes to being out of touch, you can’t get any better than the First Community Organizer.

Led by Barack Obama and the Democrats, Congress passed a budget plan that doesn’t even do what they said it would- keep taxes lower for anyone not a millionaire or billionaire.

So, now...
