I have long theorized that true democracy can only thrive in a Judeo-Christian environment because this worldview values individual responsibility over corporate (i.e. government) responsibility, and the individual's freedom to make choices--even if they are misguided.

Baloney! Many of those who WNW and are sponging, selling drugs, etc, will sponge, not work and sell drugs if they do have 1200 a month, and will spend the 1200 on drugs, booze & partying before they do the responsible thing and pay rent and groceries for themselves and their kids. I know. I know several of these people. These people need to WORK in order to have the self-respect they need to stay off the booze and drugs!

So much for unintended consequences! Hooray!

Because the liberals run the institutions of higher learning, that's why. Abolish the federal dept of education and return control to the parents.

As a computer programmer, I always count the first item as zero (0), so counting the decade as 2000-2009 makes total sense to me. But...was there a year 0? If the current era is counted from the year of Christ's birth, wasn't that the year 1? and the year before that was 1 BC (or BCE to use current PC speak). If that is correct, then we are counting from 1, not 0, so current year is the last of the first decade in the current millennium. Not to pick at nits or anything

One might add that it was imminently "unfair" that thousands of Africans were captured from their homelands and forcibly brought to America to live in slavery. Unfair. Immoral, even. BUT...for the descendants of those slaves, like the descendants of the conquered Western Europeans, life is much better than for their cousins who were left in Africa.
